Woman Arrested On Multiple Offenses Involving DWI And Assault
Drivers in Fairfax County who are confronted with drunk driving charges may soon find out that these charges are treated very seriously. When a driver is charged with driving while intoxicated, there is also the possibility that multiple other offenses will be levied against him or her as well. The circumstances surrounding the incident that precipitated the arrest and the aftermath will often dictate how severe the charges are.
Recently, a 34-year-old woman was charged with drunk driving, assaulting a police officer, reckless driving and disregarding a police signal. At approximately 2:52 a.m. the woman’s car was spotted by a law enforcement officer as it was stopped in a traffic lane. After investigating, the officer believed that the female driver of the vehicle was under the influence. The woman then reportedly drove off. Officers pursued her and, during the pursuit, the woman lost control of the vehicle and stopped. When the arrest was being made, the woman allegedly assaulted an officer. She now faces charges on multiple offenses related to the incident.
When a driver is arrested on drunk driving charges, there can be harsh penalties including up to a year in jail, a hefty fine, the loss of driving privileges and other punishments. A conviction can have a significant impact on a person’s life personally and professionally. What must be remembered, however, is that law enforcement is required to follow certain procedures when investigating a possible DWI. For example, if the officer didn’t administer the breath test according to proper procedures, the results might be deemed invalid.
Regardless of the circumstances, it’s important to lodge a strong legal argument against drunk driving and other criminal charges, in order to try and avoid the maximum penalties. Doing so could mean the difference between a life-altering conviction and preserving one’s freedom.
